Muhammad Rudi, the Head of Batam Management Body and Mayor of Batam, emphasized the critical role of sports in attracting tourists to Batam at the inauguration ceremony of the Indonesian National Sports Committee (KONI) Batam for the 2024-2028 period. Held at the Grand Galaxy Ballroom of Planet Holiday Hotel on Wednesday, February 7, 2024, the event highlighted Batam’s commitment to bolstering its sports sector as a key strategy for urban development and tourism growth.
The new KONI Batam management, led by Rani Rafitriyani as the General Chairperson, was officially appointed to steer the city’s sports initiatives. Rudi’s address underlined the importance of comprehensive sector improvements, with sports being identified as a pivotal area for driving increased visitor numbers to Batam.
Recognizing sports as a significant draw for tourists, Rudi outlined the vision for Batam to become a bustling hub by developing various sports disciplines. This initiative aims to leverage Batam’s existing attractions and enhance its appeal as a destination.
