Batam’s Batuampar Port, strategically located along the bustling Strait of Malacca, embarks on a significant upgrade to become an international transhipment port, enhancing Indonesia’s global trade potential.

Batuampar Port’s geographical advantage in the Strait of Malacca positions it to benefit from one of the world’s busiest trade routes. This development aligns with Batam’s economic growth which outpaced the national average in 2022.

BP Batam’s Badan Usaha Pelabuhan (BUP) records an 8% increase in container handling in 2023, evidencing the port’s growing significance in regional trade.

Director Dendi Gustinandar highlights ongoing efforts to elevate Batuampar Port into an international transhipment hub, utilizing its strategic location to facilitate global cargo transfer.

The transhipment process is essential when there’s no direct connection between two ports, a role currently dominated by major hubs in Singapore, Busan, Tanjung Pelepas, and Port Klang.

Three development phases are planned for Batuampar Port, starting with modernization and expanding to direct international call capabilities by 2027.
