Despite the global economic slowdown, Batam’s economy is poised to continue its growth trajectory in 2024. Kadin’s Chairperson Jadi Rajagukguk highlights the significant contributions of trade, manufacturing, and construction to Batam’s economy.
Batam’s unique position as a border area offers an advantage over other regions, particularly in facilitating the flow of people. The city has been a major destination for international tourists, ranking second only to Bali in visitor traffic pre-COVID-19. The improvement of transportation modes and immigration services is crucial to maintain this momentum.

The year 2023 saw a rise in container loading and unloading activities at Batam’s ports. This growth, evident in both domestic and international container traffic, reflects the vitality of the city’s trade sector and its role in the regional economy.
Improvements in policy and services, such as faster immigration processes, reduced or free Visa On Arrival (VoA) fees, and lower ferry ticket prices, are key to facilitating economic growth in Batam.
Despite the current unstable political climate, Kadin remains optimistic about the continued growth of the trade sector in Batam.
