In late 2023, a man identified as SL (35) was arrested for attempting to transport 2,037 grams of cocaine from Batam to Tanjungpinang. SL claimed he was unaware that the package contained narcotics.
The Satresnarkoba Polresta Barelang, acting on community tips, conducted an investigation that led to the arrest of SL at the exit of Panbil Mall, Mukakuning, Sei Beduk, Kota Batam.
SL was apprehended with the cocaine hidden in a black and blue bag. The arrest was made possible through proactive investigations by the Batam police.

During the press conference, SL claimed this was his first involvement in drug transportation and stated he was unaware of the contents being narcotics.
SL mentioned he had been jobless for a while, which might have influenced his decision to undertake the delivery, though the exact payment details were unclear.
Both SL and another suspect, SK (42), who was later arrested, face serious charges under Indonesian law, including the possibility of the death penalty or life imprisonment.

The police confiscated cocaine weighing 2,037 grams, a Realme smartphone, cash, a Yamaha Mio J motorbike, and an identity card from SL. Additional items were seized from SK.
