Kepri Government Prepares 40 Hectares for Chili Cultivation Across Seven Cities Next Year

In 2024, the Kepulauan Riau (Kepri) Provincial Government, through the Food Security, Agriculture, and Animal Health Office (DP2KH), plans to allocate 40 hectares of land for chili cultivation. This initiative aims to address the chili consumption needs and inflation rates in the region.

The DP2KH of Kepri Province is set to distribute the cultivation land across seven districts/cities, enhancing the chili production to meet the local demand and contribute to regional food security.

The allocated land includes five hectares each in Tanjungpinang, the Anambas Islands, Batam, Natuna, Lingga, and Bintan, with an additional ten hectares in Karimun.

Utilizing prolige technology, the project is expected to produce 2,000 tons of chili annually, with an estimated yield of 20 tons per hectare.

The current annual chili consumption in Kepri is about 9,000 tons, while the existing production is around 7,000 tons. This initiative aims to fill the 2,000-ton shortfall.

Governor Ansar Ahmad emphasized the importance of chili cultivation in controlling inflation in Kepri, as chili is a significant commodity influencing the region’s inflation rates.

The provincial government, in collaboration with Bank Indonesia, has been actively promoting chili cultivation as part of its efforts to curb inflation.
