Bank Indonesia (BI) has taken significant strides in developing the digital Rupiah, entering the experimentation phase after consolidating public insights.
In an effort to advance the Rupiah Digital, BI has launched a Public Consultation Report, summarizing community feedback collected from January 31 to July 15, 2023. This report is a crucial component of “Project Garuda,” overseeing the exploration of the Rupiah Digital.
BI received 42 comments and inputs, primarily from banking, non-financial institutions, associations, government ministries, academicians, and the general public.

BI emphasizes transparency and accountability in the digital currency’s development, intending to add significant value to Indonesia.
The Rupiah Digital will undergo several stages, including technology experimentation, prototyping, piloting/sandboxing, and policy stance review.
The experimentation is designed as an iterative process to explore various design alternatives thoroughly.

The report is categorized into six sections focusing on scalability, access modalities, currency issuance, fund transfer functionalities, technical capabilities, and overall implications.
