A drug courier, MMY (44), from Sungai Langkai Sagulung, was apprehended in Batam after a daring attempt to escape police by jumping into the sea. MMY was allegedly promised a payment of Rp 50 million for transporting 3.962 grams of methamphetamine from Malaysia to Batam.
The arrest followed a tip-off from the public to the Satresnarkoba Polresta Barelang. MMY, along with accomplices A and T (currently at large), attempted to flee by sea but was eventually captured by the police on December 17, 2023, in the waters off Nongsa.
MMY attempted to evade arrest by jumping into the sea but was ultimately apprehended by the quick response of the Satresnarkoba Polresta Barelang team.
MMY, a law graduate working for a private company in Batam, was presented at a press conference by the police, revealing his involvement in the drug trade.

MMY was lured by the promise of a substantial payment for the successful delivery of the drugs, having already received a down payment of Rp 10 million from A, who is still at large.

MMY collected the illegal substances from Terminal Larkin Johor Baru, Malaysia, and transported them to Batam via a blue and yellow speed boat.
MMY faces severe charges under Indonesian law, with the possibility of life imprisonment or even the death penalty.
