In a significant move to streamline immigration processes, the Batam Immigration Office is set to introduce autogate facilities at two of its major international ports, Batamcenter and Sekupang, starting 2024.
The Batam Immigration Office is planning to implement an autogate system at the Batamcenter and Sekupang international ports to improve service efficiency and manage the flow of international travelers, enhancing overall travel experience.
Samuel Toba, Head of Batam Immigration Office, announced the plan to install five autogate systems each at the Batamcenter and Sekupang international ports to enhance service quality and reduce queues.
The autogate system is designed to shorten waiting times at entry points, crucial due to the high volume of international visitors, averaging 140,000 monthly.
Currently, eight autogate systems are operational at Harbourbay International Port, with plans to expand to further ease the immigration process for international travelers.
The autogate system allows for self-service immigration checks, making the process faster and more efficient, typically taking less than 15 seconds per traveler.

The implementation of the autogate system is also an effort to align Batam’s immigration services with neighboring countries like Singapore, aiming for a high standard of traveler experience.
