The UMKM EXPO BRILIANPRENEUR 2023, themed “Crafting Global Connection,” serves as a pivotal platform for Indonesian Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), especially those in the micro and ultra-micro segments, to step onto the global stage.
Leonard Theosabrata, President Director of LPP-KUKM (SMESCO Indonesia), emphasized the critical need for synergies between the private sector, government, and various institutions to enhance UMKM competitiveness for global markets, during the “Ngobrol Pintar Brilianpreneur Eps.2” discussion at the expo in Jakarta.
Indonesia, with approximately 65 million UMKM businesses, predominantly in the micro and ultra-micro segments, faces foundational challenges such as resilience, stable supply, price stability, consistent market demand, and accessible financing to scale up their operations.
Differentiating between micro/ultra-micro and small/medium enterprises in terms of needs and handling, the approach for the former focuses on basic needs such as resilience, while the latter requires more advanced support like incubation.
Theosabrata highlighted that curated UMKM participants in BRILIANPRENEUR are relatively more prepared for global competition. However, many are still striving to elevate their businesses, with some working day-to-day, underscoring the importance of appropriate branding, marketing, and crucially, financing.
BRI, as a bank empowering UMKM, reaffirms its commitment to advance the national micro and ultra-micro UMKM sectors. Easy and fast financing is a prime focus of BRI, with its Ultra Micro Holding, in collaboration with PT Pegadaian and PT Permodalan Nasional Madani (PNM), providing an ecosystem for these segments to evolve into small and medium enterprises.

The holding’s program encompasses business mentoring, skill enhancement, digital literacy, empowerment, and market access expansion. BRI’s Director, Sunarso, emphasizes that empowering UMKM is not just a business objective but a means to foster social welfare.
For international stakeholders, the UMKM EXPO BRILIANPRENEUR 2023 is a testament to Indonesia’s commitment to integrating its UMKM sector into the global economy. It underscores the potential of Indonesian MSMEs in contributing significantly to the international market.
