Covid-19 in Batam: 7 Cases Reported with 2 Hospitalized and 1 Deceased

The Batam City Health Department (Dinkes) has confirmed seven active cases of Covid-19 in the region. This update includes the recovery of four patients and the unfortunate demise of one patient due to comorbidities.

Didi Kusmarjadi, the head of Health Department (Dinas Kesehatan) in Batam City, reported the recovery of four Covid-19 patients previously treated at Elisabeth Hospital. He also announced a new case and the ongoing treatment of two patients with comorbidities at the same hospital.

Four patients, previously admitted to Elisabeth Hospital in Lubukbaja, have recovered from Covid-19 and been discharged. This news comes amidst the ongoing pandemic response in the city.

Of the seven reported cases, two patients are currently receiving medical care due to pre-existing health conditions (comorbidities), while the other five are asymptomatic and undergoing self-isolation at home.

A 48-year-old male patient, one of the Covid-19 cases in Batam, passed away at the Embung Fatimah General Hospital. He was admitted in the morning and passed away by the evening, having suffered from comorbidities.

M. Bisri, the head of the Health Department of the Riau Islands Province, clarified that the patient’s death was not directly caused by the Covid-19 virus but by comorbidities, including a history of appendectomy and flu symptoms.

Despite the patient testing positive for Covid-19, the specific hospital providing treatment has not been disclosed. The current data indicates a total of eight cases, with seven being active and affecting various age groups, with the most affected group being those between 46 and 65 years old.

This situation underscores the ongoing challenges in managing Covid-19, particularly in patients with other health conditions. The health authorities in Batam continue to monitor and respond to the pandemic, emphasizing the importance of public vigilance and adherence to health guidelines.
