BP Batam recently announced the latest developments in the Rempang Eco-city project, including the construction of the Rempang Tower, a structure set to be twice the height of Jakarta’s famous Monas.

In a meeting at the Swissbel Hotel on December 18, 2023, BP Batam detailed the progress of the National Strategic Project (PSN) Rempang Eco-city, highlighting the planned construction of the monumental Rempang Tower as Indonesia’s new landmark.

Sudirman Saad, a BP Batam official, described the development of seven zones in Rempang Island, encompassing industry, tourism, services, and conservation areas. The initial focus is on the 2000-hectare industrial zone in Kampung Sembulang.

The Rempang Tower, soaring to a height of 218 meters, will be located in the 370-hectare Zone 1. This tower is envisaged to become a new symbol for Indonesia, particularly in Batam, significantly outstripping the height of the Monas.

BP Batam also discussed Presidential Regulation No. 78 of 2023, an amendment to the 2018 regulation on handling the social impact of land acquisition for national development projects. This new regulation, essential for the Eco-city project, aims to resolve longstanding issues in Rempang.

The regulation assures fair compensation for the local community affected by the Rempang Eco-city development and expands BP Batam’s authority in resolving related issues, a critical step for the project’s progress.
