The United Nations in Indonesia partnered with Bumilangit to conduct a Creative Week for Persons with Disabilities from December 6-10, 2023, at Bloc Bar 2, MBloc Jakarta. Supported by Microsoft, the event aligns with the International Day of Persons with Disabilities theme, promoting unified action to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals for, with, and by persons with disabilities.
Valerie Julliand, Resident Coordinator of the United Nations in Indonesia, emphasized the overlooked potential of persons with disabilities in various fields, including art, culture, technology, and sports. The event aims to challenge stereotypes and foster an inclusive future.

Juliana Cen, Senior Partner Development Manager at Microsoft Indonesia and a person with Asperger’s syndrome, shared her personal journey, highlighting the intersection of neurodivergence and professional life.
Faizal Thamrin, Data Innovation Lead at UN Global Pulse Asia Pacific, discussed how technology can assist persons with disabilities, enhancing their skills, independence, and access to new opportunities.
The event showcased over 70 creative works and activities, such as visual arts, performances, oral history, inclusive fashion, and technology workshops, aimed at celebrating and recognizing the creative spirit of persons with disabilities.

The week-long event reinforced the need for an inclusive future, as about 80% of young people with disabilities are not engaged in work, education, or training, according to the International Labour Organization (ILO).
The International Disability Week held by the UN in Indonesia, with its focus on technology as an empowering factor, serves as an inspiring model for fostering inclusive communities. It invites Singaporeans and international visitors to participate in and contribute to such initiatives, promoting a global culture of inclusion and empowerment.
