The Special Economic Zone (SEZ) of Batam Aero Technic (BAT) is set for a major leap, poised to become the largest Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) center in Indonesia, significantly impacting the aviation ecosystem and local economy.

Situated on a crucial international traffic route, Batam Aero Technic’s development has been remarkable, with substantial investment and job creation marking its progress. The KEK BAT has absorbed 1,636 workers and amassed investments worth Rp 607.5 billion in the first half of 2023 alone.

The KEK BAT has successfully employed both direct and indirect labor, with a reported absorption of 1,636 workers from January to June 2023, demonstrating its vital role in the local job market.

Muhammad Rudi, Head of BP Batam, praised KEK BAT’s growth, highlighting its support in the national aviation ecosystem. Rudi emphasized BAT’s role in maintaining and repairing aircraft for the Lion Group across Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand.

KEK BAT’s presence has spurred development in Batam, particularly around Hang Nadim International Airport. This has led to substantial contributions to the local economy through job creation and investment growth.

The potential role of KEK BAT in reducing national airfare costs was discussed. Rudi noted that local maintenance services could significantly reduce expenses, contributing to more affordable air travel.
