Within five days of its launch by the Batam City Public Order Agency (Satpol PP), the Siap Garda app has recorded a significant number of reports, predominantly concerning waste, illegal housing, and unauthorized stalls.

Since its introduction on October 31, Siap Garda has become an essential tool for Batam’s citizens to report public order issues, with Satpol PP receiving 43 reports, focusing mainly on three areas of concern.

Kasatpol PP of Batam City, Imam Tohari, noted that the most reported issues include garbage disposal, illegal kiosks, and unauthorized housing, signifying a growing civic engagement in maintaining city order.

These reports will be followed up with the involvement of local RT/RW (neighborhood and community unit) apparatus, indicating a collaborative approach between authorities and communities.

Regarding sanctions, Imam explained that penalties as per the regional regulation include fines of up to IDR 50 million or a three-month imprisonment. However, judges typically opt for fines, with the amount varying based on the nature and frequency of the violation.

For instances like cohabitation without marriage, fines have been imposed up to IDR 1.5 million per individual. This approach reflects the city’s stance on enforcing public order while considering the severity of violations.

Under Batam City Regulation No. 11 of 2013, littering offenders face fines ranging from IDR 300,000 to IDR 50 million, highlighting the city’s commitment to environmental cleanliness and public health.

The stringent enforcement of public order in Batam through the Siap Garda app ensures a cleaner, more orderly environment, enhancing the city’s appeal as a tourist destination.

The Siap Garda app launched by Batam’s Satpol PP marks a significant step in addressing public order issues. With a focus on tackling waste disposal, illegal housing, and unauthorized stalls, the app empowers residents to report violations, aiding the authorities in maintaining civic order and cleanliness.
