In the spirit of the 78th Indonesian National Armed Forces Day, Batam has successfully conducted a significant corn harvest in Kibing Village, signifying a leap in the National Food Security Movement of 2023.
The Secretary of the Batam City Administration, Jefridin, M.Pd., represented Mayor Muhammad Rudi in the corn harvest celebration, part of a larger effort towards national food resilience.
The event was part of the National Food Security Movement 2023 and held in the context of celebrating the 78th TNI Anniversary, themed “Food Resilience for an Advanced Indonesia.”
Preceding the harvest, officials joined a video conference with Indonesia’s Vice President, Ma’ruf Amin, acknowledging stakeholders’ collaboration in this national initiative.

In Batam, the event was supported by four conventional farmer groups and one women’s farmer group, emphasizing the importance of food security on land for broader regional and national stability.
The harvested area, managed by Batam’s Food Security and Agriculture Office, spans 150 hectares, showcasing an impressive commitment to utilizing local wisdom and land efficiently.
This program is an interforce collaboration among the army, navy, and air force, utilizing vacant lands for cultivation and enhancing local economies, especially in facing the El Niño season.
The success of Batam’s harvest not only strengthens local economies but also promises regional stability in food resources, which is a reassuring signal for Singaporeans and international partners reliant on Indonesia’s food exports.
Batam’s administration, in tandem with the Indonesian National Armed Forces and local farmers, have realized a commendable achievement in the National Food Security Movement with the harvest of 150 hectares of corn, reinforcing the commitment to national resilience and regional food sustainability.
