The official website of Indonesia’s Financial Authority, Otoritas Jasa Keuangan (OJK), experienced disruptions. Rumors circulating on social media suggest a ransomware attack.
With an announcement titled “Service Disruption Notice” posted on OJK’s official Instagram, there’s speculation about a ransomware attack. The public is advised against opening emails from OJK or accessing its website.
Alfons Tanujaya, a cybersecurity expert from Vaksincom, commented on the situation, emphasizing the seriousness of cyber threats to the financial sector. Referring to OJK as the ‘Godfather’ of the Indonesian financial industry, he stressed the potential catastrophic impact of such attacks.
Alfons underlined the importance of bolstering resources in the realm of cybersecurity amidst ongoing digitalization. He highlighted that while it may not seem as appealing as other sectors, cybersecurity attacks can cripple digital operations, leading to significant financial losses.
Drawing a parallel, Alfons referred to recent cyber-attacks on two major entities, Caesar and MGM in Las Vegas, USA. Both incidents resulted in operational paralysis and incurred massive financial and reputational damages.
He also recollected the recent hacking incident at PT Bank Syariah Indonesia Tbk (BSI) as a sharp reminder for the Indonesian financial industry to fortify digital safeguards. The repetition of such events is a matter of grave concern.
