Batam Immigration Office intensifies its pursuit of four fugitives from the Philippines suspected of human trafficking and tax evasion, making significant headway with recent arrests.

The Class I Special Immigration Checkpoint Office in Batam, under the leadership of Kharisma Rukmana, has been actively pursuing four individuals implicated in serious crimes. As of late August 2024, two have been apprehended, while the main suspect, a former mayor from the Philippines identified only as AG, remains at large within Batam.

AG, the primary suspect, is alleged to be the former Mayor of Bamban in the Philippines, involved in both human trafficking and tax evasion scandals. His siblings, SG and WG, along with a relative, KO, are also implicated. WG has reportedly fled to Hong Kong, with assistance from a Singaporean national.

On August 19, 2024, Batam Immigration officials successfully detained SG and KO as they attempted to continue their journey to Malaysia through the Batam Center International Port. These individuals are now awaiting deportation after being transferred to Jakarta.

Immigration authorities are still conducting operations to capture AG and WG, with recent intelligence suggesting AG’s presence in Batam. Efforts are being coordinated with regional partners to track down WG in Hong Kong.

The operation has involved significant coordination with the Philippine Immigration Bureau and regional partners, reflecting a robust international effort to combat transnational crimes.
