Different monitoring sources show worsening pollution as haze covers parts of Batam.

Batam residents faced poor air conditions on October 6 as haze reduced visibility and fine-particle pollution remained elevated, prompting warnings to limit outdoor activity.

PM2.5 Reaches 86.8 Micrograms
Batam Pos reported that Batam’s air quality was in the unhealthy category on October 6, with PM2.5 concentrations reaching 86.8 micrograms per cubic meter. Residents were advised to reduce prolonged outdoor activities while fine-particle pollution remained elevated.

Satellite Data Records AQI of 129
A separate air-quality dataset cited by Lentera Kepri recorded an AQI of 129 at 7 a.m., categorized as unhealthy for sensitive groups. The same dataset measured PM2.5 at 47 micrograms per cubic meter, with a temperature of around 28 degrees Celsius, humidity of 75 percent and wind speeds near 10 kilometers per hour. The figures differed from those reported by Batam Pos because they came from different air-quality data sources.

Haze Reduces Visibility Across Batam
Lentera Kepri reported that haze was visible across several parts of Batam during the morning, making the sky appear more obscured and reducing visibility. Residents with respiratory conditions, children, older people and others sensitive to air pollution were among those advised to pay closer attention to exposure.

Residents Urged to Reduce Outdoor Activity
Health guidance reported by Lentera Kepri included reducing outdoor exercise and other prolonged activities, closing windows when outdoor air is heavily polluted and using masks for sensitive individuals who need to remain outside. The report also recommended monitoring changing air-quality conditions before planning outdoor activities.

Poor Air Quality Has Persisted for Days
The October 6 conditions followed several days of elevated pollution readings in Batam. Batam Pos had reported unhealthy conditions on October 5, while an earlier reading on October 2 recorded an ISPU of 103, also within the unhealthy category.

Batam’s October 6 air-quality readings show elevated PM2.5 and recurring haze becoming an immediate concern for residents, particularly vulnerable groups. For Indonesians in Batam, regularly checking official or reliable air-quality data can help guide daily activities. For Singaporeans traveling to nearby Batam, the conditions are also relevant when planning outdoor activities or short visits.
