RON95 and RON97 fall five sen while diesel drops 15 sen per liter.
Malaysian motorists paying market rates will see lower fuel prices from October 1, as recovering petroleum flows through the Strait of Hormuz ease some of the pressure on crude oil and refined petroleum product prices.
Unsubsidized Fuel Prices Fall
From October 1 to 7, 2026, unsubsidized RON95 and RON97 petrol will each fall by five sen per liter, while unsubsidized diesel will decrease by 15 sen per liter. The adjustment marks the first decline in Malaysia’s unsubsidized fuel prices in four weeks.
RON95 Drops to RM4.52 Per Liter
The new retail price for unsubsidized RON95 is RM4.52 per liter, down from RM4.57, while RON97 falls from RM5.05 to RM5.00 per liter. Unsubsidized diesel records the largest reduction, dropping from RM5.42 to RM5.27 per liter. Malaysia determines weekly fuel prices through its Automatic Pricing Mechanism.
Global Fuel Supply Shows Signs of Recovery
Malaysian motorists paying market rates will see lower fuel prices from October 1, as recovering petroleum flows through the Strait of Hormuz ease some of the pressure on crude oil and refined petroleum product prices.
Subsidized Prices Remain Unchanged
Eligible Budi Madani RON95 recipients will continue paying RM1.99 per liter, with the government covering RM2.53 per liter compared with the unsubsidized rate. Budi Diesel recipients will continue paying RM2.10 per liter, with the government providing a subsidy of RM3.17 per liter. Other targeted subsidy programs will also remain in place.
Geopolitical Risks Could Keep Prices Volatile
The Finance Ministry cautioned that the unpredictable geopolitical situation could continue to affect petroleum product prices in the short term. The wider market remained sensitive to developments in the US-Iran conflict and disruptions affecting global fuel supplies.
The October fuel-price reduction gives Malaysian motorists some relief after several weeks of increases, although global energy markets remain vulnerable to geopolitical developments. For Indonesians and Singaporeans traveling by road in Malaysia, the latest rates provide a clearer picture of current fuel costs across the border.
