Malaysia’s enterprise technology push is gaining another major partnership, with U Mobile and Tencent Cloud joining forces to develop practical applications that combine 5G connectivity, cloud infrastructure, and artificial intelligence.
U Mobile Signs Strategic MoU
Malaysia’s U Mobile has signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding with Tencent Cloud to develop 5G and artificial intelligence solutions for Malaysian enterprises and small and medium-sized businesses. Tencent Cloud will combine its AI and cloud capabilities with U Mobile’s 5G network and Enterprise Innovation Platform, or EIP, to identify and develop applications addressing practical business needs. No financial terms for the partnership were disclosed.
Enterprise Platform Drives Development
U Mobile’s Enterprise Innovation Platform will serve as the main environment for developing and validating potential solutions. The platform uses a “Develop, Test, Demonstrate” approach that allows companies to test AI-driven applications against actual industry challenges. Successful projects could then progress to pilot deployments, commercialization, and wider market launches.
Partnership Combines 5G, Cloud and AI
The companies said the collaboration will bring together U Mobile’s next-generation 5G network with Tencent Cloud’s cloud and AI infrastructure. U Mobile Chief Technology Officer Woon Ooi Yuen said the focus is on turning promising ideas into practical business solutions through the EIP pathway. Tencent Cloud Senior Vice President Poshu Yeung said the partnership is intended to help enterprises and developers build applications supporting Malaysia’s digital transformation.
Workshops and Pilot Showcases Planned
U Mobile and Tencent Cloud plan to organize workshops, innovation sessions, technology demonstrations, and pilot showcases involving businesses, startups, developers, universities, and technology partners. The collaboration will also include technical knowledge sharing in areas such as 5G, enterprise AI deployment, system integration, and security, with the aim of strengthening local capabilities and testing industry-specific applications.
First AI-Focused Telco Partnership for Tencent Cloud
Tencent Cloud described the agreement as its first official AI-focused partnership with a Malaysian telecommunications provider. U Mobile launched its ULTRA5G service in 2025 and introduced the Enterprise Innovation Platform in 2026 as a testing environment for 5G and AI projects. SoyaCincau also noted that U Mobile and Tencent previously signed an MoU in 2019 to explore technologies including big data analytics, AI, and the Internet of Things.
