68-year-old pronounced dead at Segar station as trains halted between Senja and Petir for investigations.

A 68-year-old man died after falling in front of an oncoming train on the Bukit Panjang LRT Line near Segar station early on May 18, causing a four-hour disruption to services between Senja and Petir stations.

Early-Morning Incident And Fatality
Police said they received a call for assistance at Segar LRT station at about 5.50am. Preliminary investigations indicate that around 5am, a man was seen falling onto the track in front of an oncoming train. He was found motionless and pronounced dead at the scene by an SCDF paramedic; police said they do not suspect foul play, and investigations are ongoing.

Evacuation And Family Impact
At around 9am, the entrance of Segar station was cordoned off as SCDF and police officers removed the body from the track. SCDF said it was alerted at 6.25am and conveyed another person to Woodlands Hospital; Lianhe Zaobao reported that a woman believed to be the man’s wife was wheeled out on a stretcher appearing traumatised.

Service Suspension And Commuter Disruption
SMRT said in a Facebook update that train services between Petir and Senja stations in both directions were suspended to grant police safe access to the tracks. Notices first appeared on the MyTransport.SG app around 6am, with the Land Transport Authority advising commuters to use free bus and bridging bus services at affected stations; queues for bridging buses built up at Bukit Panjang interchange during the morning peak.

Information Updates And Train Resumption
At 6.52am, SMRT cited a “track intrusion” as the cause of disruption, later clarifying that a man “was seen to have fallen onto the track” near Segar. Affected travellers were offered e-Travel Chits as proof of travel and told to check mytransport.sg for live status updates. At 10.17am, SMRT announced that train services between Senja and Petir had resumed in both directions and free bus services had ceased.

LRT Line Works And System Context
The 8km Bukit Panjang LRT Line, Singapore’s first driverless inter-town feeder connecting Bukit Panjang and Choa Chu Kang estates to the North–South and Downtown lines, is currently undergoing power rail replacement due for completion in late 2026. Its fleet was fully renewed in October 2025 and has operated on a new communications-based train control signalling system since Nov 8, part of ongoing efforts to improve reliability and safety.

The Segar station fatality and subsequent service disruption highlight both the human tragedy of falls on automated rail systems and the ripple effects on morning commuters. For Indonesians and Singaporeans, the incident underlines the importance of platform safety, timely communication and robust contingency plans as cities rely more heavily on automated feeder lines in dense residential corridors.
