Over 150 animals rehomed as shelters face rising costs and resource strain

Animal shelters in Singapore are appealing for public support after taking in a large number of cats and dogs from a troubled welfare group, placing significant strain on resources.

Shelters Step In to Rehome Animals
Several animal welfare groups have stepped in to care for animals previously housed by Animal Lovers League (ALL), following issues that led to its closure.

Among them, Voices for Animals and Oasis Second Chance Animal Shelter are taking in a significant portion of the animals, which include around 100 cats and 60 dogs.

Large Intake Puts Pressure on Resources
Voices for Animals is preparing to take in 92 cats, adding to its already substantial workload. The shelter has highlighted the rapid depletion of essential supplies such as cat litter due to the increased number of animals under care.

The situation reflects the scale of responsibility now placed on these organisations as they work to ensure the animals’ well-being.

Medical Needs Add to Challenges
Oasis Second Chance Animal Shelter will be taking in 29 dogs, many of which require immediate medical attention.

The shelter noted that the majority of these animals need treatment, increasing both operational complexity and financial burden.

Rising Costs and Expanded Facilities
To accommodate the additional dogs, the shelter has expanded its facilities, securing more units and investing in infrastructure improvements.

Despite support from authorities such as rental and utility assistance, the shelter expects significant additional expenses, including medical care and manpower.

Community Support Becomes Crucial
Both shelters have turned to the public for help, calling for donations and supplies to sustain their operations.

They emphasised that community involvement is key to ensuring the rescued animals receive proper care and eventually find permanent homes.

The situation highlights the vital role of community support in animal welfare, as shelters navigate growing demands to provide safe and sustainable care for rescued pets.
