Allegedly falsified fin swimming race results led to athletes’ selection for 2023 SEA Games
Three former coaches from the Singapore Underwater Federation (SUF) have been charged in court for allegedly falsifying race results that helped athletes qualify for the 2023 SEA Games.
Former Coaches Charged Over Forgery
Three former coaches from the Singapore Underwater Federation (SUF) have been charged with forgery offences linked to falsified race results.
Muhammad Faiz Suhaimi, 33, and Ho Ho Huat, 56, each face three charges, while Gary Lee Quan Hua, 35, faces two similar charges related to conspiracy to commit forgery for the purpose of cheating.
Falsified Results from Overseas Event
Court documents state that the trio allegedly falsified results from the 1st Malaysia Fin Swimming Championship 2023.
The manipulated records were created as electronic documents and included altered race timing results.
Results Submitted to Olympic Committee
Authorities said the falsified records were submitted to the Singapore National Olympic Council (SNOC) as part of an appeal.
This submission allegedly led SNOC to believe the results were genuine.
Athletes Selected for SEA Games
Because of the falsified records, six SUF athletes were selected to compete in the fin swimming events at the 2023 SEA Games in Cambodia.
Police said the athletes would not have qualified for the competition without the altered results.
Authorities Stress Sports Integrity
The alleged misconduct came to light after SNOC filed a police report in March 2025 regarding the suspected falsified results.
SNOC and Sport Singapore said they do not condone any actions that undermine the integrity of athlete selection for major competitions.
The case highlights growing scrutiny over governance and transparency in sports administration. Authorities say protecting the credibility of athlete selection processes remains critical to maintaining trust in competitive sports.
