Police issue international alert as foreign suspects flee after brutal killing
Indonesian police have identified the mutilated remains found on a Bali beach as those of a Ukrainian tourist who was allegedly kidnapped and tortured while on holiday.
Victim Identified Through DNA Testing
Indonesian authorities confirmed that the decomposing and dismembered remains found on a Bali beach belonged to 28-year-old Ukrainian national Ihor Komarov.
Police matched DNA samples from the body with those of Komarov’s mother to establish his identity, according to Bali police spokesman Ariasandy.
Kidnapping Occurred in Jimbaran
Komarov was reportedly abducted on February 15 while riding a motorbike with a friend in the resort town of Jimbaran.
According to investigators, a group of assailants forced him into a car while leaving his friend behind, who later reported the incident to police.
Body Parts Found Days Later
Several days after the abduction, locals discovered body parts along a nearby beach and near a river.
Police believe the victim had been tortured by his kidnappers, who allegedly demanded millions of dollars in ransom from his family.
Police Identify Multiple Foreign Suspects
Authorities arrested a man who had rented the vehicle used in the kidnapping.
The suspect reportedly identified six other individuals believed to have participated in the crime, all of whom are foreign nationals.
International Manhunt Underway
Police said the suspects fled Indonesia and are now the subject of an international red notice.
Investigators are also verifying multiple passports allegedly held by the suspects, with authorities coordinating with international partners to locate them.
The brutal killing has raised concerns about organised crime targeting tourists in popular holiday destinations. Indonesian authorities say investigations are continuing as they work with international agencies to track down the suspects and bring them to justice.
