New shipments to Singapore, Japan, and Timor Leste mark export expansion
Indonesia is accelerating its ambitions to become a regional poultry exporter, turning domestic production surpluses into international trade opportunities after declaring self-sufficiency in chicken meat and eggs.
Indonesia Expands Poultry Export Drive
Indonesia has launched a new poultry export shipment as part of its strategy to strengthen the country’s presence in regional food markets. Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman on Tuesday flagged off 75 tons of poultry products destined for international markets.
The shipment, valued at Rp 3.3 billion, or approximately S$264,000, departed from the Agriculture Ministry complex in South Jakarta.
Products Head to Three Countries
The export cargo included chicken breast, eggs, nuggets, and sausages packed into six container trucks. The products were shipped to Singapore, Japan, and Timor Leste.
Officials described the export as a concrete step to transform Indonesia’s surplus poultry production into foreign exchange earnings.
Major Poultry Firms Join the Initiative
Four companies participated in the shipment: Charoen Pokphand Indonesia, Japfa Comfeed Indonesia, Taat Indah Bersinar, and Malindo Food Delight.
The Agriculture Ministry said the collaboration demonstrates strong coordination between the government and major industry players in expanding overseas markets.
Export Targets and Market Expansion
According to ministry projections, Indonesia plans to export a total of 545 tons of poultry products worth Rp 18.2 billion by March 31, 2026.
The country already exports poultry products to 10 regular destinations, including Oman, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Papua New Guinea, and Myanmar.
Economic Benefits and Industry Growth
Minister Amran said expanding poultry exports would help generate foreign exchange income, create jobs, and increase the value of domestic agricultural products.
The government also sees exports as a way to stabilize farm-level prices while improving the welfare of businesses in the livestock sector.
Indonesia’s growing poultry export strategy reflects a broader effort to transform its food sector into a driver of economic growth. As production capacity rises and quality standards improve, the country is positioning itself as a competitive supplier in regional markets, including Singapore. Strengthening agricultural exports may also deepen economic ties across Southeast Asia while supporting Indonesia’s domestic livestock industry.
