Two vape pods seized following late-night collision near Cantonment Road
A late-night crash near Tanjong Pagar has led to the arrest of a 29-year-old driver, raising fresh concerns over impaired driving and e-vaporiser violations in Singapore.
Late-Night Collision Near City Center
Police were alerted to a two-car accident at the junction of Cantonment Road and New Bridge Road at around 9:20 p.m. on Feb 7. The incident occurred near Tanjong Pagar, a busy district known for its nightlife and residential mix.
Photos shared by SGRV FRONT MAN on Facebook showed a silver car and a black car appearing to have collided head-on. The silver vehicle’s front bumper had detached, indicating the force of the impact.
Driver Arrested for Drug-Related Offences
Authorities confirmed that a 29-year-old male driver was arrested at the scene. He is being investigated for driving without reasonable consideration and driving under the influence of drugs.
The Singapore Police Force stated that investigations are ongoing. The case underscores the serious legal consequences faced by motorists who endanger others through reckless or impaired driving.
Vape Pods Seized at Scene
In addition to the traffic-related offences, officers seized two vape pods during the operation. Police told The Straits Times that the e-vaporiser-related offence has been referred to the Health Sciences Authority.
Singapore maintains strict regulations on e-vaporisers, including bans on possession, use, and distribution. Offences related to vaping products are treated seriously under national health laws.
Minor Injuries Reported
The Singapore Civil Defence Force confirmed that one individual was assessed for minor injuries at the scene. However, the person declined to be taken to the hospital.
No fatalities were reported, and the extent of vehicle damage appears limited to the two cars involved. Authorities have not released further details about the identities of those affected.
Ongoing Police Investigation
Police have not disclosed whether additional charges may be filed as investigations continue. Toxicology tests and further assessments are typically conducted in suspected drug-impaired driving cases.
The outcome of the investigation could determine whether the driver faces further legal action beyond the initial arrest.
Road Safety and Public Health Concerns
The incident highlights two pressing issues in Singapore: road safety and illegal vaping. Drug-impaired driving remains a serious offence due to the risks it poses to other motorists and pedestrians.
At the same time, strict enforcement against e-vaporisers reflects broader public health efforts to regulate emerging tobacco alternatives.
This case serves as a reminder of Singapore’s firm stance on impaired driving and vaping-related violations. Strong enforcement not only protects road users but also reinforces public health and safety standards. As cross-border travel between Singapore and Indonesia continues to grow, maintaining high road safety and regulatory compliance remains crucial for regional confidence and public trust.
