Prime minister urges vigilance as global extremism threatens social harmony and economic stability
Growing global tensions rooted in race and religion are no longer distant issues, but real risks that demand early awareness and firm national resolve.
Global Warning on Racism and Extremism
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim warned that Malaysia must remain alert to growing threats of division based on race and religion. Speaking at the Ministry of National Unity’s monthly assembly in Putrajaya, he said global developments show how quickly extremist ideologies can undermine social cohesion.
There Are Sentiments Spreading
He cited the resurgence of fascism, racism, and Islamophobia in parts of Europe and the United States as a serious cautionary signal. According to BuletinTV3, Anwar stressed that these sentiments are spreading even within educated communities, making them harder to detect and counter.
Dangers of Misinformation and Emotional Narratives
Anwar expressed concern that racial and religious sentiments are often fueled by misinformation rather than facts or rational understanding. He said such narratives are particularly dangerous because they exploit emotions and can fracture multiracial societies from within.
He emphasized that addressing this challenge requires strength, wisdom, and consistent public education to prevent prejudice from taking root in national discourse.
Peace and Stability as Economic Foundations
The prime minister underscored that national peace and stability are essential for development, economic prosperity, and the well-being of the people. Without a stable social environment, he warned, economic growth and revenue generation would be severely affected.
Political Stability Efforts
Anwar added that political stability must be paired with sound economic policies, including efforts to attract foreign investment and develop human capital. He noted that centralized economic activity and youth skills training are critical to sustaining long-term growth.
Anwar’s remarks reinforce the message that unity, stability, and economic strength are deeply interconnected. As racial and religious tensions rise globally, Malaysia’s ability to safeguard social harmony will play a critical role in securing sustainable growth and regional confidence, particularly within Southeast Asia.
