States roll out cultural receptions as Malaysia positions itself as a top global destination

Malaysia has officially kicked off the Visit Malaysia 2026 campaign with coordinated nationwide welcoming events, signaling a renewed push to strengthen tourism growth, international confidence, and regional travel appeal.

Nationwide Welcomes Mark VM2026 Launch
States across Malaysia rolled out welcoming ceremonies at major entry points including airports, ferry terminals, and land borders as part of the Visit Malaysia 2026 campaign. The coordinated effort, led by Tourism Malaysia and the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, took place simultaneously at 55 main entry points nationwide, underscoring the scale and ambition of the campaign.

State-Level Targets and Cultural Showcases
In Pahang, arrivals at Sultan Ahmad Shah Airport in Kuantan were welcomed with cultural performances and traditional weaving demonstrations, with the state targeting 15 million visitors and tourism revenue exceeding RM13 billion. Terengganu greeted 394 passengers at Sultan Mahmud Airport with gamelan music and cultural dances, while Negeri Sembilan launched its program alongside Visit Negeri Sembilan 2026 to position Port Dickson as a key destination.

Sarawak hosted celebrations at Kuching International Airport and nine land and air entry points statewide, while Sabah launched intensified promotions highlighting Unesco-recognized attractions such as Mount Kinabalu and the Crocker Range, as the state targets four million visitors this year.

Infrastructure and Experience Upgrades

At Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport, also known as Subang Airport, Tourism Malaysia held welcoming ceremonies for international visitors as airport authorities confirmed readiness for increased passenger traffic. Senior manager Ahmad Fakri Samsudin said improvements are underway at immigration counters, departure halls, and public facilities, with daily passenger movement already rising from 4,000 to 7,000 following increased flight frequencies.

Family-Friendly Image Resonates With Tourists
International visitors cited safety, accessibility, and cultural diversity as key reasons for choosing Malaysia. These testimonials reinforce Malaysia’s positioning as a safe and welcoming destination for families and young travelers alike.

Economic and Tourism Growth Ambitions
Perak is promoting more than 100 tourism products across natural, cultural, and culinary segments, while Perlis plans 12 major programs under Visit Perlis 2026. At the national level, the VM2026 campaign aims to attract 43 million international tourist arrivals, with its official launch marked by the Visit Malaysia 2026 Countdown Festival attended by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in Kuala Lumpur.

The nationwide rollout of Visit Malaysia 2026 highlights a coordinated effort to boost tourism-led economic growth while reinforcing Malaysia’s reputation for cultural diversity, safety, and accessibility. As regional travel rebounds, the campaign holds strong implications for cross-border tourism flows involving Indonesia and Singapore, strengthening people-to-people ties and regional connectivity.
