Overnight Stranding After Passport Goes Missing
A Malaysian man in his twenties was left stranded in Singapore after misplacing his passport, preventing him from returning home. With no valid travel document, he spent the night at a McDonald’s outlet while trying to retrace his steps and search for the missing passport.

According to SBS Transit, the man suspected that he may have accidentally left the passport on a bus he had taken earlier in the day. Despite searching throughout the night, he was unable to locate it and had no option but to remain in Singapore overnight.

At around 5am on Dec 20, the distressed man approached the passenger service office at Ang Mo Kio Bus Interchange seeking assistance. Senior Assistant Interchange Supervisor Nithyananthan Palne, also known as Nathan, had just started his shift when he encountered the man.

Nathan recalled that the man was crying and repeatedly said he could not return to Malaysia without his passport and did not know what to do. Believing the document might still be recoverable, Nathan immediately took action.

Immediate Coordination Across Bus Interchanges
Nathan contacted multiple bus interchanges to check if the passport had been found, but the initial search did not yield any results. Understanding the urgency of the situation, he expanded the search to include Seletar Bus Depot.

This additional step proved critical, as it ensured that all possible locations linked to the man’s travel route were covered in the search effort.

Passport Recovered From Bus Service 24
Staff at Seletar Bus Depot later confirmed that a bus captain had found a passport under a seat on bus Service 24. After verifying that the name matched the stranded man’s identity, Nathan personally traveled to the depot to retrieve the document.

He returned to Ang Mo Kio Bus Interchange and handed the passport back to the relieved traveler. Nathan said the man was overjoyed upon receiving it, ending hours of uncertainty and distress.

Gratitude Expressed Through Letter and Call
Several days later, the man, identified only as Mr. M, called Nathan to personally thank him for his help. He also wrote a commendation letter to SBS Transit, expressing how surprised and grateful he was for the prompt and efficient assistance.

In the letter shared by SBS Transit, Mr. M explained that he had no idea where he lost the passport and was forced to sleep at McDonald’s because he could not return to Malaysia without it.
