New Sarawak Delta Geopark packages spotlight culture, nature and sustainable travel ahead of Visit Malaysia 2026
Sarawak is stepping into the global spotlight with an expanded series of geopark tourism packages designed to elevate the state’s ecotourism appeal and strengthen Malaysia’s momentum toward Visit Malaysia 2026. The initiative underscores a unified push by federal and state tourism bodies to promote sustainable, culturally immersive and high-value travel experiences.
Sarawak’s Geopark Strategy Expands Ahead of Visit Malaysia 2026
Sarawak has launched the Sarawak Delta Geopark Tourism Packages Volume 2, reinforcing its position as a leading ecotourism and cultural destination. The new edition is a collaboration between Tourism Malaysia and the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Sarawak, reflecting the national commitment to sustainable and meaningful travel experiences for the upcoming VM2026 campaign.
Tourism Malaysia deputy director-general (Promotion II) Samuel Lee Thai Hung said the initiative aligns with Malaysia’s broader vision to showcase transformative, heritage-rich and environmentally responsible tourism. He emphasized that the latest launch builds on the strong response from Volume 1, which drew significant interest from domestic and international travelers.
A Geopark Shaped Over Millions of Years
Covering 3,112 square kilometers across Kuching, Bau and Padawan, the Sarawak Delta Geopark features dramatic geological formations shaped over millions of years. It has been described by Lee as one of Malaysia’s “remarkable hidden gems”, offering a rich blend of natural wonders and cultural heritage sites.
Sarawak is working toward securing UNESCO Global Geopark status by 2026, becoming the country’s third alongside Langkawi and Kinabalu. Lee noted that achieving this milestone would further elevate Malaysia’s global tourism reputation and strengthen Sarawak’s visibility on the world stage.
New Experiences Across 42 Curated Itineraries
Volume 2 introduces 42 curated itineraries from 13 travel agencies, each presenting unique opportunities for cultural immersion, nature exploration and community engagement. The packages include guided trails to ancient rock formations and fossil sites, firefly-lit mangrove cruises, and immersive village visits highlighting Malay, Bidayuh and Chinese heritage.
Destinations featured in the packages include Bako National Park, Sarawak Cultural Village, Wind and Fairy Cave Nature Reserve, Paku Rock Maze, Annah Rais Homestay and Semadang River Kayak. These hands-on experiences showcase Sarawak’s warm hospitality and reflect what modern travelers increasingly seek: authenticity, sustainability and compelling storytelling.
Driving Meaningful Visitor Engagement
Lee shared that Tourism Malaysia is moving beyond conventional promotion by emphasizing deeper visitor engagement. This includes supporting community-driven tourism, expanding cultural immersion opportunities and ensuring environmental sustainability across travel offerings.
He added that the initiative positions Sarawak not only as an ecotourism leader but also as a destination offering transformative journeys that leave lasting impact on visitors.
Business Events Boost Sarawak’s Appeal
Sarawak’s position as a business events destination is also strengthening through improved connectivity and facilities such as the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching. Lee noted that synergy between business and leisure travel is enhancing the state’s reputation as a versatile and high-value destination, contributing meaningfully to Malaysia’s tourism industry.

A Unified Push Toward Visit Malaysia 2026
Both federal and state tourism bodies reiterated that the Sarawak Delta Geopark packages are an important step toward fulfilling the goals of Visit Malaysia 2026. Strategic collaborations with airlines, travel agents and local communities are expected to support Malaysia’s ambition to attract more travelers seeking meaningful and sustainable journeys.
The expansion of the Sarawak Delta Geopark packages symbolizes a renewed commitment to sustainable tourism and cultural preservation. For travelers across the region, the initiative offers deeper engagement with Sarawak’s natural landscapes, heritage and community-driven experiences. This momentum sets the stage for Malaysia to present a compelling and responsible tourism narrative as Visit Malaysia 2026 approaches.
