Malaysia Among Top Global Travel Documents
The Malaysian passport has been ranked the third most powerful in the world, according to the latest 2025 Passport Index published by passportindex.org. The annual index measures global passport strength based on the number of destinations a citizen can enter without a prior visa.
Visa-Free Access Expands to 174 Countries
Malaysian passport holders can now travel to 174 destinations worldwide without a visa. This includes popular business and leisure destinations across Europe, Asia, and the Americas, reflecting the country’s growing diplomatic credibility and robust border security systems.
The Immigration Department (JIM) announced the achievement on social media, stating that the ranking “reflects international trust and recognition of the security features of Malaysia’s travel document, which is highly regarded worldwide.”
UAE, Singapore, and Spain Lead the Index
The United Arab Emirates passport tops the 2025 Passport Power Rank, offering visa-free entry to 179 countries. Singapore and Spain follow closely in second place, with access to 175 destinations each.
Malaysia’s Strong Standing in Global Company
Malaysia shares the third position with 15 other nations, including Belgium, France, Germany, Finland, Italy, Denmark, Portugal, Switzerland, Greece, Austria, Norway, Ireland, and South Korea.
This marks the second consecutive year Malaysia has appeared in the top tier of global passport rankings, surpassing regional competitors like Japan and Thailand.
A Reflection of Diplomatic and Security Strength
Officials attribute the passport’s rise to Malaysia’s robust international cooperation, advancements in document security, and consistent diplomatic engagement. These factors have strengthened mutual visa agreements and enhanced Malaysia’s global reputation for traveler reliability.
Global Recognition for Malaysian Citizenship
The Malaysian passport’s elevated ranking is widely viewed as a point of national pride and a reflection of the country’s growing global influence. It offers citizens not only increased mobility but also an affirmation of Malaysia’s role as a stable and trusted partner in international relations.
Malaysia’s ascent to third place in the 2025 Passport Index underscores its progress in diplomacy, border security, and global engagement. As Malaysians gain unprecedented travel freedom, the ranking also cements the nation’s image as a reliable global player in Southeast Asia’s increasingly interconnected landscape.
