ANA Group to shut down AirJapan brand amid global challenges; operations to be absorbed under ANA.

Just months after expanding its flight schedule, budget airline AirJapan will shut down in March 2026, marking the end of its short-lived operations between Singapore and Tokyo.

ANA Group Restructures, Shutters AirJapan

On October 30, 2025, ANA Group announced it will discontinue the AirJapan brand by March 2026 as part of a larger strategic overhaul. The group cited mounting global headwinds—including the ongoing war in Ukraine, aircraft delivery delays, and technical issues related to Boeing 787 aircraft—as reasons for the consolidation.

AirJapan’s aircraft and staff will be integrated into ANA’s core international operations to streamline resources and boost profitability.

Final Singapore–Tokyo Flights Confirmed

AirJapan’s last outbound service from Singapore to Tokyo (Narita), NQ004, is scheduled for March 29, 2026. The final inbound flight from Tokyo to Singapore, NQ003, will depart on March 28, 2026.

Launched in April 2024, the Singapore–Tokyo route quickly gained popularity, with AirJapan increasing frequencies from five weekly flights to daily service starting November 21, 2025. This move had been supported by the addition of a third Boeing 787 to its fleet.

Despite this expansion, operational challenges—including Aircraft On Ground (AOG) situations—prompted service disruptions in October, with two consecutive Singapore–Tokyo flights cancelled due to maintenance.

Short Run, Broad Reach

AirJapan debuted in 2024, offering routes to Bangkok, Seoul, and Tokyo, targeting price-conscious travelers. Known for competitive pricing, the airline had offered one-way Singapore–Tokyo fares from as low as S$226. It operated under the ANA Group alongside full-service airline ANA and fellow low-cost carrier Peach Aviation.

The Singapore–Osaka route will continue under Peach Aviation, which began direct flights in December 2024 and currently operates the only other budget service between Singapore and Japan under ANA Group.

Future Bookings and Brand Transition

AirJapan has assured that customers with booked tickets can continue their travel as planned until the March 2026 deadline. However, from that point onward, all bookings and services will be consolidated under the ANA brand, with AirJapan ceasing operations entirely.

ANA Group said the consolidation will allow it to focus on strengthening its full-service and low-cost offerings across more stable and scalable brands.

The closure of AirJapan highlights the shifting dynamics in global aviation, where operational resilience and brand consolidation have become key survival strategies. While travelers in Singapore lose a budget connection to Tokyo, the ANA Group’s restructuring aims to provide more stable international services under its established brands. As the aviation landscape continues to adapt, passengers can expect refined services but fewer ultra-low-cost options across the region.
