Two-day friendly volleyball tournament bridges sportsmanship, diplomacy, and teamwork between Batam and Singapore.

The volleyball court at Sporthall Temenggung Abdul Jamal became a stage for cross-border camaraderie on October 4–5, 2025, as BP Batam, VTeam, and UN-Collective Singapore gathered for a spirited friendly tournament aimed at deepening regional ties through sports.

A Match Beyond Competition

The two-day volleyball tournament marked more than a display of athletic prowess — it was a symbolic gesture of friendship between Batam and Singapore. Officially opened by Ariastuty Sirait, BP Batam’s Deputy of Public Service and Manager of the BP Batam Volleyball Team, the event highlighted sports as a powerful tool for fostering cooperation across borders.

“This tournament is not just about competition, but about collaboration, respect, and building positive connections between Batam and Singapore,” Ariastuty shared before an enthusiastic crowd.

Singapore’s Support Strengthens Regional Bonds

Adding prestige to the occasion, Bynes Lau, Vice Consul of Singapore in Batam, attended and commended BP Batam’s dedication to building lasting ties with Singapore through positive, people-centered activities. Lau’s presence reinforced how informal exchanges like sports can complement official diplomatic relations, paving the way for future collaborations in other fields.

VTeam’s Return After 18 Months

Representing Singapore, VTeam Manager May Leon expressed heartfelt excitement about reuniting with their Batam counterparts after a year and a half apart. “It’s been one and a half years since our last match with BP Batam. It feels wonderful to return and experience this healthy, friendly spirit again,” she said, reflecting the mutual enthusiasm shared between both teams.

Sport as a Bridge of Solidarity

Beyond the net and court lines, the volleyball tournament stood as a microcosm of ASEAN unity — proving that sport can bridge cultural and institutional gaps. The event encouraged stronger interpersonal connections while showcasing Batam’s potential as a hub for international collaboration and sports tourism.

Strengthening Regional Togetherness

As the final whistle blew, the shared laughter and camaraderie resonated louder than the scoreboard. BP Batam’s initiative underscored a broader message: that diplomacy and friendship can thrive through simple, meaningful exchanges. Events like this not only energize local communities but also reaffirm Batam’s growing role as a strategic and welcoming gateway between Indonesia and Singapore.

This friendly volleyball meet served as a powerful reminder that unity often begins with shared moments of joy. By merging competition with cooperation, Batam and Singapore have set an example of how cross-border engagement can nurture peace, understanding, and regional solidarity — both on and off the court.
