Batam’s main airport earns ACI Level 2 accreditation, advancing toward global aviation hub status.
Hang Nadim International Airport in Batam has secured the Airport Customer Experience Accreditation Level 2 from Airports Council International (ACI), marking a significant milestone in its transformation into a globally competitive aviation hub.
A Milestone for Batam
The award was presented during the ASQ Award & Airport Customer Experience Accreditation Ceremony in Guangzhou, China, held on September 8–12, 2025. The recognition affirms PT Bandara Internasional Batam’s (PT BIB) efforts to elevate Hang Nadim’s service standards to match leading international airports.
Passenger-Centric Standards
ACI’s accreditation evaluates airports on their commitment to customer satisfaction. By reaching Level 2, Hang Nadim demonstrated measurable progress in areas such as facility management, frontline service delivery, and innovative initiatives designed to enhance passenger comfort.
PT BIB’s President Director, Annang Setia Budhi, described the achievement as a turning point. “We are committed to positioning Batam as Indonesia’s main western gateway—modern, convenient, and globally competitive,” he said on September 16.
Leveraging International Exposure
Beyond receiving the award, PT BIB also engaged with international airlines, airport operators, and strategic partners during the Guangzhou event. These forums allowed Batam to showcase its potential as an investment destination and an aviation hub, strengthening its global visibility.
Doosun Choi, PT BIB’s Marketing Director, emphasized the importance of this exposure. “Participation in such international events is vital for expanding networks, introducing Batam to the world, and opening opportunities for new collaborations,” he noted.

Path Toward Level 5
PT BIB aims to advance Hang Nadim’s accreditation to the highest ACI rating—Level 5. To achieve this, the operator plans to prioritize digitalization of services, facility upgrades, and workforce development. These efforts are aligned with Batam’s broader strategy to attract investment, tourism, and logistics opportunities.
Building an Aerocity and Air Logistics Hub
Hang Nadim is currently undergoing development into an aerocity and international air logistics center. Positioned strategically in Southeast Asia, Batam seeks to establish itself not only as a passenger hub but also as a key node for global cargo distribution.
The ACI Level 2 accreditation strengthens Hang Nadim Airport’s reputation as an emerging international aviation hub. By combining service excellence, infrastructure upgrades, and global networking, Batam is moving closer to its vision of becoming a leading investment, tourism, and logistics center in Southeast Asia.
