Governor Ansar Ahmad says foreign-backed projects could create jobs and boost regional economy.
The Riau Islands provincial government (Kepri) is accelerating efforts to attract large-scale investment, with Chinese investors now exploring iron ore downstream processing projects in Lingga, Anambas, and Natuna.
Foreign Investment in Focus
Governor Ansar Ahmad confirmed that the provincial government recently held talks with investors from China to discuss the development of downstream iron ore processing facilities. He emphasized that such investments represent “golden opportunities” to drive long-term regional economic growth.
Targeted Areas for Development
The discussions focused on Lingga, Anambas, and Natuna, areas seen as strategically important for industrial expansion. According to Ansar, these projects will not only increase economic output but also provide a direct boost to employment and community welfare.
Commitment to Facilitation
Ansar stressed that the government is committed to assisting investors with regulatory or operational challenges. “If there are obstacles, we will help find solutions. Our aim is to ensure these investments run smoothly,” he said during a meeting on September 16.
Partnerships and Local Benefits
The governor highlighted the importance of collaboration between foreign investors and local partners. “Investor and local partners must walk together. The goal is for communities to feel the real benefits through jobs and economic opportunities,” he added.
Beyond Iron Ore
In addition to downstream processing for iron ore and steel, the talks also covered broader industrial development, including potential industrial zone projects across Kepri. These initiatives are expected to provide new growth engines for the province’s economy.

Long-Term Vision
Ansar reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to continuously support strategic investments, particularly in underdeveloped districts. By opening pathways for global capital, Kepri hopes to strengthen its position as a rising industrial hub in Indonesia’s western region.
The entry of Chinese investors into Kepri’s iron ore and industrial sectors signals a major step toward diversifying the province’s economy. With promises of job creation, infrastructure growth, and stronger local partnerships, Lingga, Anambas, and Natuna could soon emerge as key drivers of Indonesia’s industrial transformation.
