Young woman discovered at home in Sei Lekop, Batam, police suspect depression as cause
Residents of Sagulung, Batam, were left in shock after a 23-year-old woman identified as Dp was found dead by hanging inside her home on Saturday afternoon (Sep 13). Police believe the young woman may have been struggling with depression before her tragic death.
Discovery of the Victim
The victim, originally from North Sumatra, was found around 4:00 p.m. by a family member at her residence in Kavling Sei Lekop, Block F. She was discovered hanging from a rope tied to the kitchen doorway. The discovery immediately drew crowds of shocked neighbors to the scene.
Police Investigation
Sagulung Police Criminal Unit Head, Iptu Anwar Aris, confirmed the incident and said the body was examined by medical staff. “There were no signs of violence on the victim’s body. Based on our initial findings, we conclude this was a suicide,” he stated. The body has since been returned to the family for burial.
Possible Depression Behind the Tragedy
According to police, Dp was alone at home at the time of her death. Early investigations suggest personal issues and possible depression may have contributed. Authorities are still gathering statements from the victim’s family and neighbors to understand the circumstances further.

The victim’s family, still in shock, declined to provide detailed statements to the media. Several neighbors joined the family in accompanying the body to the home before burial, marking the community’s collective grief.
