PM Anwar says reduction fulfills MADANI Government’s pledge to ease rakyat’s burden
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has reaffirmed that RON95 petrol prices will be reduced to RM1.99 per litre by the end of September, delivering on the MADANI Government’s commitment to lighten household expenses.
Promise of Lower Fuel Prices
Speaking at the Johor-level Rapat Umum 27 Tahun Reformasi programme, Anwar addressed public concerns that fuel prices had not dropped despite earlier assurances. “Some are angry because September has already begun but fuel prices have not gone down. I said before the end of September. Is Sept 10 the end of the month? Is Sept 15 the end of the month? Wait a while. Will it go down? It will,” he said.
Current and Market Rates
The Prime Minister, who also serves as Finance Minister, highlighted that RON95 currently sells at RM2.05 per litre—well below the unsubsidised market price of RM2.50 to RM2.60. With the planned reduction, Malaysians will see an additional price cut, further easing the cost of living pressures.
“We Promised, We Deliver”
Anwar stressed that the government’s pledge was not mere rhetoric but a commitment being honoured. “Tell me, which other country gives its people such a low price? We promised, we deliver,” he declared, underscoring the administration’s focus on affordability and stability.

Clarification on Overseas Visits
Addressing criticism of his frequent overseas trips, Anwar clarified that such visits were official duties, not leisure. He explained that invitations from foreign leaders reflect Malaysia’s respected global standing. “People often say I travel abroad a lot. Do you think it is easy, that I go on holiday? This is work,” he said.
Engagement in International Affairs
As an example, Anwar shared that he had been invited by the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, to attend the Emergency Arab-Islamic Summit on Sept 15, which will focus on the crisis in Palestine, particularly in Gaza. He stressed Malaysia’s role as a free and sovereign nation that must speak out boldly in international forums.
The reduction of RON95 prices to RM1.99 reflects Malaysia’s resolve to protect its people from rising global costs while strengthening its voice on international issues. For households, this marks tangible relief in daily spending; for the nation, it underscores a balance between domestic priorities and global responsibilities.
