An anxious search for an 11-year-old boy ended in tragedy when his body was found floating in the waters off East Coast Park on the night of August 30.

From Missing to Tragic Discovery

Muhammad Hairil Effendi, 11, was reported missing on August 29 after he was last seen near Block 29 Marine Crescent around 11:05am. Missing posters circulated on Facebook that day, urging the public to help locate him.

Body Found at East Coast Park

On August 30, at about 9:55pm, the police received a call for assistance at East Coast Park. Hairil’s body was found floating in the sea and brought ashore by officers from the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF). He was pronounced dead at the scene by an SCDF paramedic.

Identification and Family’s Grief

Police confirmed on August 31 that the body had been identified by Hairil’s next-of-kin. His father, Mr. Fendi, shared that his son had autism, but requested privacy during funeral proceedings.

Ongoing Investigations

Authorities have stated that preliminary investigations do not suspect foul play, though full investigations remain ongoing. The police also reminded the public not to circulate images or videos of the deceased, out of respect for the grieving family.
