Singaporean singer-songwriter JJ Lin and Hong Kong martial arts icon Jackie Chan have surprised fans with their new single “Skibidi”, a lighthearted track that has quickly become a talking point across the internet.
A Collaboration Few Expected
The collaboration was first teased by Lin’s label JFJ Productions on Instagram, before officially dropping worldwide on August 27, 2025. While Lin is celebrated for his Mandopop career spanning over two decades, Chan is no stranger to music either, having released more than 20 albums since debuting as a singer with the 1980 film The Young Master.
This is not their first time working together — earlier this year, the duo performed the 90s hit “Sincere Hero” at the Beloong Music Festival in Wuhan, China.
What Does ‘Skibidi’ Mean?
The title draws from Skibidi Toilet, a viral YouTube series where animated toilets battle humans with camera heads. Recently added to the Cambridge Dictionary, “skibidi” is defined as a flexible slang term meaning “cool” or “bad”, or used with no real meaning as a joke.
In the introduction to the song’s YouTube clip, Lin explained that the word has no fixed definition. Instead, he described it as “silly, playful, and a stand-in for feelings without words,” reflecting a lighthearted attitude towards life.
Netizens React: Confused, Amused, and Curious
Online reactions ranged from bewilderment to delight. Some YouTube users described the collaboration as “aura farming” — slang for deliberately cultivating a cool or charismatic vibe to gain attention. Others joked about the timing, noting the release coincided with the Hungry Ghost Festival.
While some fans questioned the unusual pairing, many others congratulated the duo and praised the track as “lit” and “refreshingly fun.”
Jackie Chan’s Controversial Public Image
The single also revives discussion about Chan’s complex public reputation. The actor-singer, who suffered backlash after fathering a child out of wedlock in 1999, has faced renewed criticism from his estranged daughter Etta Ng, who accused him of homophobia. Despite controversies, Chan’s wife, Joan Lin, has stood by him through the years.
Skibidi has captured attention not only for its quirky title but also for the unlikely pairing of two cultural icons.
