SCDF highlights fire safety risks as Redhill incident adds to rising 2025 toll.
Four people were taken to hospital and 50 residents evacuated after a fire broke out in a Housing Board (HDB) flat at Redhill Close in the early hours of August 28, 2025.
Early Morning Fire at Redhill Close
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said it was alerted around 1.15am to a fire at Block 68 Redhill Close. Firefighters arriving on scene found the living room of a fourth-floor unit engulfed in flames. A water jet was used to extinguish the blaze, which was contained to the living room.
Rescue and Hospitalisation
Three occupants trapped in a bedroom were rescued by firefighters. They were conscious but assessed for smoke inhalation and minor burns before being sent to Singapore General Hospital (SGH). A fourth person from another unit was also hospitalised after reporting unwellness. No further casualties were reported.
Evacuation as Precaution
During operations, police evacuated about 50 residents from the block to ensure safety. Preliminary investigations indicated the fire likely originated from an electrical source in the living room.
Fire Safety Reminders from SCDF
SCDF urged residents to practice vigilance with electrical appliances, including:
- Avoid overloading outlets
- Switch off appliances when not in use
- Check for frayed wires or cracked cords
- Use products with the official Safety Mark
- Do not charge devices overnight or leave them unattended
Series of Residential Fires in 2025
The Redhill incident is the latest in a series of residential fires in Singapore. On August 22, three people were hospitalised after a fire involving a personal mobility device (PMD) in Toa Payoh. A day earlier, three were injured in a Bukit Purmei flat blaze. Earlier in the month, two people died in Jalan Bukit Merah when a suspected PMD battery sparked a fatal fire.
Rising Fire-Related Fatalities

SCDF data shows eight fire-related deaths so far in 2025, compared with five in 2024 and three in 2023 — the highest toll in three years. Authorities continue to stress preventive measures, especially with the increasing risks linked to electrical appliances and PMDs.
The Redhill blaze underscores Singapore’s growing concern over residential fires, particularly those of electrical origin. With fatalities and hospitalisations on the rise, SCDF’s reminders serve as a critical call for households to step up fire safety practices and reduce preventable tragedies.
