LTA raises ERP charges at selected gantries as expressway congestion persists during peak hours.
From Sep 1, motorists in Singapore will face higher Electronic Road Pricing (ERP) charges at five locations, with rates rising by S$1 to manage heavy traffic along key expressway stretches.
ERP Adjustments to Ease Congestion
The Land Transport Authority (LTA) announced on Aug 27 that ERP rates at five locations will increase by S$1 starting Sep 1. The move comes after July traffic monitoring showed persistent congestion along several expressways, with vehicle speeds falling below the optimal 45kmh to 65kmh range.
Affected Gantries and Charges
The adjustments will apply to specific gantries and time slots:
- AYE (towards city, after Jurong Town Hall): S$4 between 7.30am and 8am
- AYE (towards Tuas, after North Buona Vista): S$3 between 5.30pm and 6pm; S$2 between 6.30pm and 7pm
- Southbound CTE (before Braddell Road): S$3 between 8am and 8.30am
- Northbound CTE (after PIE): S$4 between 6.30pm and 7pm; S$3 between 7pm and 7.30pm
- PIE (Kallang Bahru and slip road into Bendemeer): S$3 between 8.30am and 9am
If multiple gantries are listed under one location, motorists will only be charged at one of them.
First Increase in a Year
This marks the first ERP increase in nearly a year, following a similar S$1 hike in September 2024 at selected gantries along the AYE, MCE, and KPE. Rates for other gantries and times remain unchanged.
Monitoring Traffic Hotspots
LTA noted that it is “closely monitoring” traffic along the northbound CTE and southbound KPE, where congestion has been consistently heavier. Adjustments will continue to be made based on traffic speed and volume data.

Lower Than Pre-COVID Levels
Despite the hike, the overall number of charged locations and timeslots remains fewer than before the COVID-19 pandemic, when ERP coverage was broader.
What Motorists Should Expect
Motorists can expect heavier enforcement during peak hours as LTA balances road usage. The agency emphasised that ERP remains a key tool to discourage unnecessary car trips and maintain smooth traffic flow.
The upcoming ERP rate hike reflects Singapore’s ongoing efforts to curb congestion on key expressways. While motorists may feel the pinch, LTA’s adjustments aim to balance road demand with smoother traffic flow, ensuring efficiency across the transport network. For businesses and commuters, it is another reminder of Singapore’s commitment to sustainable traffic management in a growing urban landscape.
