Fifteen fisher and five farmer families in Natuna receive death benefits worth Rp42 million eac

Governor of Riau Islands, Ansar Ahmad, distributed Rp820 million in BPJS Ketenagakerjaan death benefits to the families of deceased farmers and fishers in Natuna, reaffirming the government’s commitment to social protection for high-risk informal workers.

Distribution of Benefits

The handover took place on Sunday, 10 August 2025, at the Sri Srindit Multipurpose Hall, Ranai, coinciding with the inauguration of the Natuna Scout Movement leadership for 2025–2030. Governor Ansar was joined by Iwan Kurniawan, Head of BPJS Ketenagakerjaan Tanjungpinang Branch, in presenting the aid.

Amounts and Recipients

A total of Rp610 million was given to 15 fisher families, while Rp210 million went to five farmer families. Each family received Rp42 million (around SGD 3,360).

Program Reach in Kepri

BPJS Ketenagakerjaan has covered 31,304 fishers across Riau Islands, with funding of Rp6.31 billion. In Natuna alone, 4,384 fishers have benefited, receiving Rp883.8 million in total. For the agricultural sector, 9,200 farmers in Kepri are covered, including 1,799 in Natuna.

Government Commitment

Governor Ansar emphasized that farmers and fishers are vital to food security and the local economy, yet face high occupational risks. He called BPJS Ketenagakerjaan a form of state presence to protect workers’ families when tragedy strikes.

Expanding Coverage

The provincial government aims to extend coverage to all farmers and fishers in Kepri. Ansar urged those not yet registered to join the program, ensuring their families receive proper protection.

This initiative strengthens the social safety net for informal workers in high-risk sectors. For communities in Natuna and beyond, it is both financial relief and a reminder of the importance of comprehensive social protection.
