A 42-year-old repeatedly abused a nine-year-old boy over two months in Batam

A 42-year-old construction worker in Batam was arrested after admitting to repeatedly abusing his nine-year-old neighbor, luring the victim with small amounts of money. The case has shocked the community and underscored the persistent threat of child exploitation.

Arrest and Modus Operandi

On Tuesday, 12 August 2025, Barelang Police’s Women and Children Service Unit arrested Ju, a resident of Taman Golf, Batam Kota. The 42-year-old man admitted to abusing his nine-year-old neighbor over a two-month period. His method was to invite the boy to his rented room and offer Rp 2,000 (approximately SGD 0.16) as pocket money.

Confession and Influence of Pornography

Ju confessed that the abuse occurred five times, with one incident involving penetration. He claimed his actions were influenced by watching same-sex adult films, a habit he developed after his divorce. He has two children of his own.

Victim’s Report and Medical Indication

The abuse came to light when the child complained to his parents about pain in his anus. The parents reported the matter to authorities, leading to the suspect’s arrest. Police are currently examining the victim, suspect, and witnesses for further evidence.

Police Statement

Kanit VI Sat Reskrim Polresta Barelang, Iptu Fransisca Febrina Siburian, confirmed that investigations are ongoing. “The suspect and witnesses are being questioned, and the case is still under development,” she said.

Legal Consequences

Ju faces charges under Articles 81 and 82 of Indonesia’s Child Protection Law (Law No. 17/2016), which carries a maximum penalty of 15 years in prison. This legislation was enacted to strengthen protections for children and impose harsher punishments for sexual crimes against minors.
