Hashim Djojohadikusumo leads Rp400B investment in Indonesia’s first green solder plant in Batam

Indonesia takes a major step toward sustainable industrialization with the launch of PT STANIA, Southeast Asia’s first eco-friendly solder plant, set to transform mineral downstreaming and green manufacturing.

A Game-Changer in Mineral Hilirization

PT Solder Tin Andalas Indonesia (STANIA), a subsidiary of Arsari Tambang, officially launched Southeast Asia’s first eco-friendly solder factory in Batam’s Tunas Prima Industrial Estate on July 10, 2025. Spearheaded by Hashim S. Djojohadikusumo, brother of President Prabowo Subianto and Commissioner of Arsari Tambang, the project marks a breakthrough in Indonesia’s mineral downstreaming and sustainability push.

Built on a 6,500-square-meter plot, STANIA has an initial production capacity of 2,000 tons of solder bar annually, with ambitious plans to expand to 16,000 tons, including solder wire, powder, and paste. The facility targets annual revenue of Rp1 trillion, demonstrating the immense value-added potential of refined tin products.

Small Investment, Massive Impact

With an initial investment of Rp400 billion (approximately SGD 32 million), Hashim described the project as one of the most meaningful in his career—despite its modest budget compared to his past ventures in cement and petrochemicals. He emphasized that STANIA is a milestone in Indonesia’s push for green, value-added industry, aligning with President Prabowo’s national hilirization agenda.

“This may be the smallest investment I’ve led, but it’s among the most fulfilling,” said Hashim. “We’re proving that even heavy industry can lead in sustainability.”

Powered by Renewable Energy, Designed for Efficiency

STANIA is more than a production facility—it is a green factory powered entirely by Renewable Energy Certificate (REC)-certified electricity from PLN’s clean energy sources. The plant’s architecture prioritizes energy efficiency with transparent roofing to maximize natural lighting, significantly reducing reliance on artificial lights.

These features make STANIA one of the most sustainable industrial facilities in the ASEAN region. Aryo P. Djojohadikusumo, CEO of Arsari Tambang, reinforced that this factory is designed to meet global standards in clean manufacturing.

Strategic Partnerships for Global Reach

To ensure secure and responsible sourcing, STANIA has signed a Head of Agreement with PT Freeport Indonesia for key raw materials like tin and silver—ensuring legal, traceable supply chains. The company has also inked a Memorandum of Understanding with global electronics giant Volex, signaling Indonesia’s move into high-value global supply chains.

Deputy Minister for Investment and Downstreaming, Todotua Pasaribu, praised STANIA as a concrete example of industrial independence: “Downstreaming isn’t a slogan. It’s our long-term strategy for national strength.”

Batam: Indonesia’s New Green Industrial Hub

The government of Kepulauan Riau has welcomed STANIA’s launch as a signal of Batam’s readiness to become a regional leader in clean manufacturing. Governor Ansar Ahmad highlighted the strategic importance of the investment: “This project brings technology, jobs, and credibility to our province.”

Hashim also contrasted the swift realization of STANIA with the prolonged investment process for a rubber factory in Aceh Barat, citing supportive local governance in Batam as key to the factory’s quick execution.

STANIA’s launch in Batam cements Indonesia’s commitment to green industrial growth and sustainable downstreaming of its mineral resources. For Indonesians, it signals new jobs and technology transfer. For Singaporeans and regional partners, it marks a cleaner, traceable supply chain in electronics manufacturing—right at their doorstep. As Indonesia pushes for industrial independence and environmental responsibility, STANIA is leading the charge.
