A hospitality student used fake job offers to exploit and assault his close friend repeatedly
A tourism student’s internship in Bintan turned criminal when he manipulated and sexually assaulted a male friend under the guise of a fake cruise ship job offer. Over six months, the suspect violated the victim dozens of times—many of which were secretly recorded.
Fake Job Offer Led to Repeated Abuse
HS (20), a student from Sahid Bintan Tourism Institute (SBTI), was arrested by Bintan police on Friday, June 27, 2025, after evidence confirmed he had sexually assaulted a male friend 31 times. The abuse occurred from November 2024 to April 2025 while HS was completing an internship at a luxury hotel in the Lagoi area, Teluk Sebong.
According to police, HS tricked the victim—his longtime friend—by offering a fake job on a cruise ship. To qualify, HS claimed, the victim needed to undergo a health screening, which he used as a cover to commit repeated acts of abuse.
Manipulation and Secret Recordings
HS meticulously planned the assault by first creating a fake job recruitment profile. He convinced the victim that a sperm test was required for job eligibility. Under this false pretense, he initiated the first incident, which eventually turned into a cycle of abuse. “It was meant to happen only once, but I became addicted,” HS confessed during interrogation.
The situation worsened when HS began filming the assaults. Upon arrest, police seized 561 explicit photos and videos stored on the suspect’s phone. These recordings were allegedly shown to the victim as “documentation” for the fake job application process.
Victim Reports, Suspect Arrested
The victim, who often shared a room with HS due to their close friendship, only realized the extent of the deception after the final incident in April 2025. Disturbed and betrayed, he filed a police report at Polres Bintan, prompting an immediate investigation.
HS was apprehended at his internship location without resistance. He admitted to the offenses and claimed confusion over his own behavior, saying, “I have a girlfriend and have had normal relations, but somehow, I did this to my friend.”
Legal Action and Evidence
Police confirmed that the suspect has been charged under Article 6 Letter C of the Indonesian Criminal Code (KUHP), carrying a potential maximum sentence of 12 years in prison. The evidence seized—including hundreds of digital files—has been critical in substantiating the case.
“The suspect manipulated a position of trust and exploited it cruelly,” said Ipda Raffi Arya Yudantara, Head of the Women and Children Protection Unit at Bintan Police. Investigators are currently analyzing the digital content and interviewing witnesses for further legal proceedings.
This deeply disturbing case highlights the dangers of deception and abuse within personal relationships—even among trusted friends. It underscores the urgent need for educational institutions, especially those in the tourism and hospitality sectors, to implement stricter screening and psychological support mechanisms.
