Johor duo caught repackaging ecstasy powder into drink mix sachets worth over RM1 million

Malaysian police arrested a father and son in Johor for distributing powdered ecstasy disguised as 3-in-1 instant beverage sachets, seizing over RM1 million worth of drugs in a high-stakes raid.

Disguised as Beverages, Sold as Drugs

In a six-hour operation on Monday, June 24, 2025, Malaysian police raided a rented house in Bukit Treh, Johor, uncovering 6,389 grams of ecstasy powder hidden in sachets designed to resemble 3-in-1 drink mixes. The street value of the seized narcotics is estimated at RM1.06 million (S$320,200).

During the raid, officers also seized a Perodua Myvi valued at RM13,000 and a Yamaha Y15ZR motorcycle worth RM7,000. Both vehicles are believed to have been used in the suspects’ distribution network. The total value of seized items amounts to RM1.08 million.

Operation Started in February

Police believe the suspects began their operation in February 2025 after renting the house for two years. The homemade setup included traditional kitchen tools, packaging material, and flavored additives—all designed to market the drugs as consumable beverages.

The father has five prior convictions, including jail time, while the son has three previous drug-related offenses. Both tested positive for drug use at the time of arrest. The case is being investigated under Sections 15(1)(a) and 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries severe penalties including the death sentence for large-scale trafficking.

Police: Drugs Threaten Public Safety

ACP Raiz emphasized that disguising drugs as common consumer products poses a grave public health risk. Authorities are actively tracing the supply chain behind the powdered ecstasy and are working to prevent similar trafficking methods from spreading across regions.

This case highlights a dangerous evolution in drug trafficking tactics—packaging narcotics as everyday products. For residents of Indonesia and Singapore, where such drugs are met with zero-tolerance laws, the case serves as a stark reminder of the regional threat posed by cross-border drug syndicates operating with growing creativity and audacity.
