The Batam Immigration Office (Kantor Imigrasi Kelas I Khusus TPI Batam) has deported four foreign nationals in June 2025 for serious violations of Indonesian immigration law. The individuals—two from China, one from India, and one from Canada—were found guilty of overstaying their visas or violating public order regulations.

The operation was conducted by the Intelligence and Immigration Enforcement Division (Inteldakim) of the Batam Immigration Office as part of routine monthly enforcement. On June 13, Chinese citizen FW was deported for overstaying more than 60 days, violating Article 78(3) of Indonesia’s Immigration Law No. 6 of 2011. On the same day, DJM, a Canadian national, was deported after being detained for disturbing public order at Batam Center. DJM, who had been diagnosed with a mental health disorder, was temporarily treated at RSJKO Engku Haji Daud in Bintan before deportation.

Second Wave of Deportations on June 17

On June 17, another Chinese national, CS, was deported for failing to update required immigration data despite prior warnings. He violated Article 71(a) of the same law. Also on June 17, Indian national JS was deported for overstaying 70 days, breaching Indonesia’s visa regulations.

All four individuals were flown from Hang Nadim International Airport in Batam to Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Jakarta, then sent to their respective home countries via international flights.

Legal Sanctions and Future Bans

In addition to deportation, all four foreigners are subject to “penangkalan” or blacklist bans from re-entering Indonesia for a certain period, as stipulated by current immigration regulations. The Immigration Office emphasized that such actions are critical to upholding the sovereignty and law of the Republic of Indonesia.

Public Awareness and Official Statement

Jefrico Daud Marturia, Head of Intelligence and Enforcement at Batam Immigration, urged foreigners to report any overstays voluntarily. “Voluntary reporting will be considered a sign of good faith and may reduce the risk of administrative sanctions,” he stated on Wednesday, June 18.

Marturia also called on the public to participate in monitoring foreign nationals. The public can report suspicious activities or immigration violations via the official complaints hotline: 0821-8088-9090.

This series of deportations highlights Indonesia’s strict stance on immigration violations, especially in strategic zones like Batam. For Indonesians and neighboring Singaporeans, the firm action underscores regional efforts to maintain public order, health protocols, and legal integrity. It also serves as a warning to foreign visitors to respect immigration laws or face serious consequences.
