Police discovered decomposed body after teacher missed work for months; colleagues seek next of kin
The decomposed body of a Malaysian school teacher was found in her Johor home after months of absence. Now, her colleagues are urgently searching for her only known relative—a maternal aunt believed to be living in Singapore.
Body Found in Skudai Home
On June 13, 2025, Malaysian police discovered the decomposed body of Lo Kwan Fong, a 39-year-old teacher from a primary school in Johor, in her Skudai residence. Lo had not reported to work for several months, prompting concern from her colleagues.
Attempts to reach her earlier in February were unsuccessful. Her neighbours alerted authorities after detecting a foul odour from her home, leading police to uncover her remains. According to Lianhe Zaobao, the condition of the body suggested she had been dead for nearly a month.
Lived Alone After Parents’ Death

Lo, described as introverted and private, had lived alone since the death of her parents over 15 years ago. Her colleagues and neighbours knew little about her personal life. Efforts to understand her background revealed that Lo had no immediate family and may have remained largely isolated for years.
Despite offers from well-meaning individuals to handle funeral arrangements, her co-workers expressed hope in finding a family member to bid her a final farewell.
Search for Only Known Relative
According to information from a colleague who had known Lo for many years, her only known relative is a maternal aunt who migrated to Singapore. The aunt, estimated to be around 74 years old, is believed to be the same age as Lo’s late mother, Jiang Laihao (transliteration).
Authorities and colleagues are now appealing to the public—particularly Singaporeans—to help identify or locate this relative, in hopes she can claim Lo’s body and attend to her final rites.
Autopsy Pending, Body Unclaimed
Lo’s remains are currently held at a government hospital morgue in Johor. Her school has confirmed that an autopsy report is pending before any further steps can be taken. So far, no family member has stepped forward to claim the body.
Anyone with relevant information is encouraged to contact the Skudai Police at 07-511 2622, as their assistance could bring closure to this tragic case.
Colleagues Remember Her Fondly
A Facebook post announcing Lo’s death described her as a respected educator, admired for her dedication and professionalism. Her loss has deeply impacted those who worked alongside her, adding urgency to their plea to find her next of kin.
The same post suggested there may also be other relatives in Taiping, Perak, though their identities remain unconfirmed.
This heartbreaking case underscores the importance of social connection and the vulnerability of those who live alone. It serves as a reminder across Malaysia, Singapore, and even Indonesia of how critical it is to maintain ties with loved ones—and how the community plays a vital role in stepping forward during times of loss and silence.
