27-year-old arrested within hours after allegedly breaking into a Jurong West home

A man was arrested on May 31 for allegedly breaking into a Jurong West flat and stealing cash and printed Community Development Council (CDC) vouchers.

Alleged Housebreaking in Jurong

On May 31, the Singapore Police Force received a report of a suspected housebreaking at a residential flat along Jurong West Street 93. The intruder allegedly stole S$55 in cash, RM168 (approximately S$50), and S$193 worth of printed CDC vouchers.

Swift Police Investigation

Utilizing surveillance cameras and nearby CCTV footage, officers quickly identified the suspect. The man was located and arrested along Jurong East Street 32 within four hours of the incident. The stolen items were found in his possession at the time of arrest.

Charges and Legal Consequences

According to the police statement released on June 1, the suspect will be charged on June 2 with housebreaking to commit theft. If convicted, he may face up to 10 years in prison and a fine, in line with Singapore’s Penal Code.

In light of this incident, the Singapore Police urged residents to adopt home protection measures. These include:
– Securing all entrances with quality grilles and padlocks
