After a week-long search, the case of missing teen Tan Boon Chin came to a tragic end on May 4, when local fishermen discovered a bloated body floating near Pulau Pisang, Pontian, Johor. The body was found around 11 a.m. and immediately reported to the Marine Police based in Kukup, who retrieved it from the water.
Identity Confirmed by Family
Although the face was severely decomposed, the family was able to identify the body based on skin tone, body structure, and the clothing Tan had worn when he left home. The 18-year-old was last seen at 8:30 a.m. on April 28, and his family had filed a missing person report the same day at Benut Police Station. His mother was reportedly overcome with grief upon confirming his identity at the morgue.

Post-Mortem Reveals Cause of Death
A post-mortem conducted at Pontian District Hospital revealed the cause of death as asphyxiation due to drowning. Police confirmed that no signs of foul play were found on the body and have classified the case as sudden death. Johor police believe the teen had been in the water for more than three days prior to discovery.

Pontian Police Chief Mohammad Shofee confirmed the forensic findings and clarified that there was no criminal element involved. The police thanked the public for their cooperation and assured that the necessary steps had been taken to conclude the investigation.
